I love when I receive a write up like this from a client:

“Caleb and I got up at 2:30AM local time, which is 11:30PM PT, to start our long journey to the beautiful Pacific Northwest (Vancouver, BC). Caleb had been training to run a 120 mile foot race through British Columbia since the beginning of the year. In January, when he first told me that we were going there for the race, I was excited. However if I had known that we would also be going to set the backdrop to our engagement photos I would have never believed it!

Caleb proposed in June while we were traveling in the UK. After the initial shock of what had happened, I knew our next trip to the PNW would provide the perfect opportunity to have engagement pictures that would set the tone for the fairy tale wedding I always wanted.  After doing some due diligence and researching photographers in the area, I found Elyse and knew her style would fit both Caleb and my personality perfectly. I reached out and we set the date!

Fast forward to picture day. I decided not to wear my dress through our travels to make sure it didn’t get any coffee stains on it or something bizarre happen like ripping because that would totally have been my luck. Caleb wore his pants but kept his shirt in the suitcase as well. I also curled my hair before we left for the airport because I wouldn’t have had time when we got to Vancouver. We had a lay over in Toronto so we got a little something to eat from Tim Hortons, which was awesome! We then boarded the next plane and on our way to Vancouver we were! Half way to Vancouver I did a full face of makeup on the airplane, which actually wasn’t as bad as it seems! Our total travel time was about 10 hours with the two flights and layover.

We finally touched down in Vancouver and I was a little nervous because the smoke from surrounding wildfires was so heavy in the city. Never the less, we made our way to the rental car booth only to discover a HUGE line. It literally took us over an hour and half to get our rental car, which was already booked by the way.

After we got our rental car, we made a bead line to meet Elyse (all while Caleb was going on about how hungry he was). We met at a small country store right outside the canyon. While I met Elyse, Caleb scoped out the baked goods the store had. He came be-boppin around the corner with the biggest cinnamon roll I’ve ever seen in my life. I introduce Caleb to Elyse as he was trying to scarf down the snack. (He’s not a happy camper on an empty stomach, so while this probably wasn’t the best first impression I was happy he wasn’t going to turn hangry during our photo shoot) I then proceeded to change into my dress and on our way into the forest stopped back by the car to drop off our other clothes. As we were about to walk away from the car and into the forest a guy driving a port-a-potty truck stopped and gave us a great compliment and asked if we were about to get married. We told him we were having our engagement pictures made and that we were getting married in January. He congratulated us and drove on his merry way!

We began our journey into Lynn Canyon and we had to walk on the road for a bit until we got on the trail. We couldn’t drive to the parking area that was a little ways up from where the road started due to closer. As soon as we got to the trail I kicked my shoes off. Elyse was in front of us photographing, while we frolicked through the forest. We got to a fork in the trail and decided to go down to the river. Caleb took my hand and guided me down the steep hill and then hopped on the rocks to get into the middle of the river. Elyse made us feel very comfortable and at ease during our session. We were so comfortable in fact, that we lost track of time. The whole experience with her and Caleb was natural. The moments we shared were whimsical and it certainly felt like a dream. Elyse was the epiphany of perfection while taking our photos. She made sure she captured every moment and I can honestly say that we made a friend while we were on our trip. We can’t wait to visit again!”
